But time moves on and it won’t be long before we get the full reveal at Frankfurt, so Mercedes is out playing at more tease, and has issued the pictures you see here. And we get a few more details. Auto Motor Und Sport has been talking to SLS designer Hartmut Sinkwitz – who was responisble for the Smart (sublime to the ridiculous springs to mind) – who says that although it is important to pay homage to the Gullwing Mercedes of the ’50s – the inspiration for the new Mercedes SLS – it was vital that the SLS should be a modern car in every respect.

Lexus has let slip pictures of its new RX after a Japanese brochure was seemingly leaked ahead of the car’s launch. We weren’t supposed to see the 4x4 until the November 2008 LA auto show, but we’ve tracked down the photos of the new Lexus RX early. They certainly look it and insiders at Lexus GB suggest they are genuine.
The Mazda Shinari Concept – pointing the way to the Mazda RX-9? We’ve only just had the news that the Mazda RX-8 has bitten the dust, victim of the upcoming Euro 5 emissions regulations. One less Mazda until we see the rebirth of the RX-7 and a halo model in the Mazda RX-9 in the next year or two.
